This will be the 41st Broadstone 1/4 marathon. It is coordinated by Poole Runners on
behalf of The Junction Leisure Centre. The event attracts up to 500 runners along with
spectators, who are mostly family and friends of the participants. The event operates
between 0900 and 1300 with the closure of the 'Toast Rack' parking area beside the shops
starting at 0900. An application for the road closure of Lower Blandford Road from
Broadstone Roundabout to the junction of Barn Road from 10.25 to 10.35 will be made to
BCP council.
The aim of the event is to provide a 2-lap road race for runners in Dorset and
surrounding counties whilst raising funds for sporting facilities and equipment for the youth
and disabled of Broadstone. Equipment on site will include traffic cones, signage, timing
mats and clock, a finishing gantry and a water station. The event is also the first race in the
Dorset Road Race league (DRRL), which is the main competitive road running league of
twelve selected races of varying distances across the county each year.
